Are you worried over the waiting for your phone to get completely charged before you venture out of your home? Nanyang Technological University Researchers have created the best solution to such concerns - a lithium ion battery that gets recharged to 70 percent in mere two minutes. The battery will also remain for 20 years and will be up for grabs from the market within two years.

We are actually relying upon rechargeable lithium ion batteries in our computers, mobile phones and tablets but they hardly remain. Most of them have the charge in them for just two to three years only, which is almost 500 recharge cycles. It also requires around two hours to completely charge them.

This latest battery model will perfectly improve the charging procedure and you will be able to recharge fast your phone while glancing your way out of the door. Electric vehicles will result as a heavily viable alternative to fossil-fuel-powered cars since it decreases battery replacement costs and will help drivers to recharge their vehicles in a couple of minutes.

During the issue of a press release, Professor Chen Xiadong, the lead study, informed that “Electric cars will be able to increase their range dramatically, with just five minutes of charging, which is on par with the time needed to pump petrol for current cars. Equally important, we can now drastically cut down the toxic waste generated by disposed batteries, since our batteries last 10 times longer than the current generation of lithium-ion batteries.”

Considering that there is enough scope in making the device the most sought after for people in urgent need, there are several mobile phone and laptop users who have already shown their renewed interest in the product like any other electronic product.

In the newly developed battery, the scientists have considered the traditional graphite that’s used for the anode (the negative pole) in the present lithium ion batteries, with a sticky substance they made from titanium dioxide.  Affordable, abundant and safe titanium dioxide is found in soil and is usually considered as an additive in food and in sunscreen lotions as well to help contain lethal ultraviolet rays.

The titanium dioxide is changed into tiny nano tubes which are a thousand times slimmer than the diameter of a human hair. Chemical reactions that take place in the battery speed up and allow for super fast charging.   Additional energy is also stuffed into the batteries reflecting that instead of the usual 500 charging cycles, the battery can now offer 10,000 cycles!

The new battery will also be cheap since titanium dioxide is not expensive and is readily available in soil. Details on how the titanium dioxide gel was formed are included in Advanced Materials. Technology to result in the premium range of batteries, which is already licensed and the scientists opine that in two years time, the batteries will be in the marketed on full scale. Checking out your compatibility standards in detail will prove to be most effective in a precise manner.
